Dr. Lia Patricia Suazo Hernandez, MD

Dr. Lia P Suazo Hernández is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases with over a decade of experience caring for patients with complex infections. She brings a deeply compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach to medicine, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and care coordination across specialties.

Originally from Honduras, Dr. Suazo completed her medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Honduras. She then moved to the United States, where she completed her Internal Medicine residency at New York Downtown Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College and Bridgeport Hospital/Yale School of Medicine. She went on to complete fellowship training in Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), where she expanded her clinical expertise and deepened her commitment to comprehensive infectious disease care.

Her areas of clinical interest include recurrent urinary tract infections, non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTMB) infections, endemic mycoses, HIV,  infections in immunocompromised patients, osteomyelitis, prosthetic associated infections and diabetic foot infections. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Suazo is committed to ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and actively involved in their care.

Dr. Suazo believes that excellent care starts with strong collaboration—within the medical team and with each patient. She encourages open communication, shared decision-making, and empowers her patients to take an active, accountable role in their health. Education, trust, and mutual respect are at the heart of every relationship she builds.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Suazo is a proud mother of two who values family, balance, and a meaningful quality of life. These values shape the way she practices—with empathy, presence, and a deep understanding that care doesn’t end when the visit does.
